Serving Those in Need - U.S. East-West Province

Parallax Sunflower

We stand with those made poor in a world of growing division. We witness the diminishing value of human life, the destruction of our earth, and rising intolerance toward those who are different, poor, or abandoned.

Called to be women of justice and peace, we commit to transforming unjust systems and fostering relationships that reflect God’s goodness for all creation.

This moment in history demands contemplative listening, ongoing dialogue and critical social analysis that moves us to action.

We are called to proclaim God’s goodness through word and action.

Starting two centuries ago with co-foundresses Julie Billiart and Françoise Blin de Bourdon, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have a long history of serving people living in poverty.

Today, Sisters continue that tradition in a variety of ways and in many venues. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur U.S. East-West Province sponsor 17 ministries including 14 schools and three healthcare facilities. They also co-sponsor Notre Dame Mission Volunteers and the Sisters Academy in Baltimore.

Here are some of their stories.

She saw education for everyone as a basic human right, and teaching as the “greatest work on earth.”
